Torrent installs permanent Jaume I sculpture
The Torrent City Council has completed the permanent installation of a sculpture dedicated to Jaume I on Avenida al Vedat. Created by Valencian sculptor Rafael Pi Belda, the monument is located at a pedestrian island at the intersection of Valentín Planells and Juan Ángel Querol streets.
The sculpture moves from a provisional location at the City Hall to this central, highly visible site. The project was funded through a collaboration between the Torrent City Council and Caixa Rural Torrent. The initiative follows a unanimous municipal decision to commemorate the 750th anniversary of the monarch's death in 2026.
The monument will be officially integrated into local traditions during the upcoming Processó Cívica on October 9. During this event, the Real Senyera will stop before the statue for a floral offering, marking the first time the sculpture is included in the official procession route.
