Torres Novas seeks cost-sharing with Entroncamento for student transport

The Torres Novas municipal government is seeking to discuss a cost-sharing agreement with the municipality of Entroncamento regarding student transportation. The proposal follows a growing number of students residing in Entroncamento who attend schools in Torres Novas.

According to municipal data, Torres Novas's public school network serves 4,475 students, 644 of whom reside in other municipalities. Entroncamento is the primary source of these students, accounting for 432 individuals. Specifically, 353 students attend the Artur Gonçalves School Group and 79 attend the Gil Paes School Group.

José Trincão Marques, the Mayor of Torres Novas, stated that the issue is “pertinent” and noted that the rising number of out-of-municipality students could significantly burden the local budget. He indicated that he has had preliminary discussions with the Mayor of Entroncamento, Nelson Cunha, and expects to continue the dialogue within the framework of the Médio Tejo Intermunicipal Community (CIM).
