San Marino ISS faces scrutiny over medical personnel management

The management of the Istituto per la Sicurezza Sociale (ISS) in San Marino is facing intense scrutiny following a dispute over the early return of surgeon Giovanni Landolfo from a period of leave. The political opposition, led by Repubblica Futura, has accused the government and the ISS Executive Committee of political interference and bureaucratic mismanagement regarding the movement of medical department heads.

Secretary of State Massimo Andrea Ugolini has defended the administration, characterizing the matter as a purely administrative issue that should be resolved by the ISS general management and executive committee rather than through political intervention. He emphasized the need for the institution to maintain service continuity and organizational stability during such transitions.

Critics argue that the current management is struggling to handle personnel movements for unit heads, citing previous difficulties in the orthopedics department. The opposition has also raised concerns regarding broader healthcare issues, including staff shortages, potential new medical fees, and the implementation of administrative models that may not suit the local community.
