Torrevieja announces inclusive job opening for people with intellectual disabilities

The Torrevieja City Council has announced a historic step toward labor inclusion by opening a janitor position reserved exclusively for individuals with intellectual disabilities. This initiative is part of a broader public employment plan for 2024, 2025, and 2026, which covers 16 janitorial roles. While 15 positions will follow standard procedures, this specific role will be managed through an independent call.

To ensure accessibility, the council will implement a reduced syllabus using ‘Easy Read’ standards, featuring simple language and visual aids. The examination process will include adapted timing and multiple-choice questions without penalties for incorrect answers. María José Ruiz, Councilor for Personnel and Internal Regime, stated that the council is seeking collaboration with local associations to support applicants throughout the selection process.
