Torrevieja reports decline in crime rates for 2026

Spanish government officials have reported a significant decrease in crime rates in Torrevieja during the first seven months of 2026. Manuel Pineda, the Government Sub-delegate in Alicante, and Colonel Francisco Poyato of the Guardia Civil stated that criminal offenses fell by more than 9% compared to the same period in 2025.

The decline spans both conventional crime and cybercrime, with the latter dropping by nearly 10%. Specific reductions include a more than 20% decrease in robberies involving violence and intimidation, an 11% drop in residential burglaries, and an 8% reduction in thefts.

Summer data also reflects this downward trend, with criminal offenses decreasing by over 7% between June 1 and August 20, 2026, compared to the previous year. Officials noted these figures are particularly notable given the city's high seasonal population, which can peak at over 400,000 residents during the summer months.
