Torstein Hagen, the founder of Viking, has an estimated net worth of $25 billion, making him the wealthiest person in Norway. Hagen established Viking in 1997 after experiencing previous professional and financial setbacks. He initially launched the company by acquiring four river ships in Russia, focusing on affluent American travelers before expanding into ocean and expedition cruises.
Viking now operates more than 100 vessels globally. Following the company's listing on the New York Stock Exchange in May 2024, Hagen's ownership stake became publicly valued. Hagen served as CEO until 2026, at which point he transitioned to Executive Chairman, handing the CEO role to Leah Talactac.
A graduate of Harvard Business School, Hagen previously worked as a partner at McKinsey & Company and held leadership roles at Bergen Line and Royal Viking Line.
