Tortona: Mother detained after killing three-year-old daughter

A woman of Russian origin remains in custody following the death of her three-year-old daughter in Tortona, Italy. The incident occurred in the early hours of October 23 in a social co-housing apartment in the city's historic center.

According to investigators, the child was fatally stabbed with a kitchen knife. Following the act, the mother reportedly attempted to take her own life and called emergency services. Authorities also recovered a handwritten note in Russian at the scene.

During a validation hearing, the suspect chose not to answer questions from Judge Riccardo Ghio. Her defense attorney, Federica Tartara, stated that the woman is currently not in the psychophysical condition to undergo interrogation, citing extreme isolation, despair, and shock. The investigation is ongoing to clarify the exact dynamics of the event and the circumstances surrounding the mother's recent separation from her partner.
