Toruń-Bydgoszcz high-speed rail proposal sparks regional dispute

The Marshal's Office is seeking a contractor to conduct expertise for a new high-speed railway line connecting Toruń and Bydgoszcz with speeds up to 250 km/h. This proposal marks a significant shift from a 15-year plan to build a tram connection between the two cities.

The proposed route would pass through Zła Wieś Wielka and the Fordon district of Bydgoszcz. However, the project has met with criticism from Bydgoszcz officials and the regional governor. Bydgoszcz Mayor Rafał Bruski noted that the city was not consulted and expressed concerns that the route through northern Toruń would require significant speed reductions due to noise regulations.

Governor Michał Sztybel and Mayor Bruski have advocated for an alternative 'Y' shaped concept near Unisław. This alternative would allow trains to reach speeds of 350 km/h on the way to the Tricity area. Mayor Bruski has contacted the central government to verify the proposed route.
