Torun regional assembly debates hospital staff accusations

During an extraordinary session of the Kuyavian‑Pomorskie regional assembly, the board addressed complaints from resident doctors at the Torun Provincial Hospital Emergency Department. The doctors alleged that the hospital management forced them to work shifts that interfered with their specialty training. Assembly Marshal Piotr Całbecki defended the hospital, citing the latest inspection by the State Labour Inspectorate (PIP) which found no irregularities and affirmed that emergency department operations were conducted properly.

Całbecki also highlighted ongoing oversight, noting that the National Health Fund and the provincial governor continue inspections, with final results expected by autumn. He called for reforms, including changes to hospital social council compositions and mandatory immediate reporting of staffing problems to the Marshal. The debate underscored broader concerns about Poland's healthcare system and the need for transparent dialogue between medical staff and authorities.
