Toshiba launches Arm Cortex-M4 microcontrollers for motor control
Toshiba has commenced volume production and sampling of its TXZ+ Family Entry-Class M4L/M4V Group microcontrollers. These Arm Cortex-M4 based controllers feature a floating-point unit (FPU) operating at speeds up to 80MHz.
Designed for real-time control of single-motor applications, the microcontrollers are intended for use in industrial equipment, factory automation, consumer products, and IoT devices. The series includes dedicated hardware accelerators, such as the Advanced Vector Engine (A-VE2), Advanced Programmable Motor Driver (A-PMD2), and Advanced Encoder (A-ENC2), which offload computationally intensive motor control tasks from the CPU to enable efficient field-oriented control (FoC).
The devices integrate multilayered security architectures, including Chip Protection (CPRO), Secure Access Memory (SAM), and Non-Rewritable Flash Protection (NRFP) to protect against unauthorized access and software tampering. They also support firmware-over-the-air (FOTA) updates and include built-in self-diagnostic functions to support functional safety and system resilience.
