Toshiba launches TXZ+ M4V microcontrollers for IoT and motor control
Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation announced the TXZ+ Family Entry‑Class M4V Group, a line of standard microcontrollers built around an Arm Cortex‑M4 core with a floating‑point unit and operating up to 80 MHz. The devices integrate 128 KB of code flash, 64 KB of data flash and 32 KB of RAM, support a 2.7 V‑5.5 V supply range, and include peripherals such as a 12‑bit ADC, UART, SPI, I²C and DMA. A multilayered security architecture provides access control, memory protection and execution control, aimed at safeguarding IoT and industrial equipment against unauthorized access and program tampering while enabling over‑the‑air firmware updates and reliable data management throughout product lifecycles.
In parallel, Toshiba began mass production of the TXZ+ Family Entry‑Class M4L Group, a motor‑control‑optimized variant. The M4L chips add dedicated hardware accelerators—Advanced Vector Engine (A‑VE2), Advanced Programmable Motor Driver (A‑PMD2) and Advanced Encoder (A‑ENC2)—to offload real‑time field‑oriented control tasks. They also incorporate security functions (Chip Protection, Secure Access Memory, Non‑Rewritable Flash Protection), functional‑safety diagnostics, OTA update capability, and UL 60730 Class B certified software. The 256 KB flash version features a dual‑bank architecture that allows one bank to be reprogrammed while the other continues executing code.
