Toshima City hosts manga exhibitions celebrating culture and parenting

Toshima City is hosting several manga-themed exhibitions to celebrate the region's cultural heritage and community life.

At the Jiyu Gakuen Myonichikan, a special exhibition for the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize winners is currently underway through August 17. The display features approximately 30 items, including works by Satoru Noda (Golden Kamuy) and Paru Itagaki (BEASTARS), alongside signed panels from past winners. The event aims to showcase the collaboration between the city's manga culture and its designated Important Cultural Properties.

Additionally, the Tokiwa-so Dori Showa Retro Museum will host the “Modern Child-rearing and Manga Exhibition” from September 18 to November 23. This exhibition explores the evolution of parenting through various manga works, featuring reproduced original drawings and panels. The event is designed to provide empathy and insight for parents by reflecting on how child-rearing has been depicted in manga over the last 40 years.
