Tosya: 500-year-old historic bath awaits restoration after fire
The 500-year-old Belediye Çifte Hamamı in the Tosya district of Kastamonu remains without restoration two years after a major fire on October 23, 2024. The historic structure, located next to the Mer’aşi Abdurrahman Paşa Mosque, suffered significant damage, rendering the men's section unusable and forcing the closure of the women's section.
Owned by the Kastamonu Regional Directorate of Foundations, the building has seen no progress in repair efforts despite official reports being filed following the incident. Local residents and business owners report that the abandoned site is facing further issues, including alleged vandalism by unidentified individuals and security concerns regarding unauthorized access to the premises.
Local tradesmen have expressed concerns regarding the cultural and economic impact of the closure, noting that the bath is a vital part of the district's heritage and local commerce. There are growing calls for authorities to initiate restoration work and implement immediate security measures to prevent further deterioration of the site.
