TotalEnergies CEO reports 500 million euro cost for fuel price caps

Patrick Pouyanné, CEO of TotalEnergies, announced that the company has spent approximately 500 million euros to implement fuel price caps in France. Since July 22, the energy giant has limited gasoline prices to 1.99 euros per liter and diesel to 2.25 euros per liter at its French service stations to mitigate the impact of rising oil prices.

While Pouyanné acknowledged that this strategy reduces profit margins and impacts the group's overall results, he defended the decision as a strategic move to improve the company's image and attract customers. He noted that the company's market share in French fuel distribution has increased from 23% in 2025 to over 30% following these measures. Pouyanné stated that the initiative is part of an effort to demonstrate the value of large domestic companies during crises.
