TotalEnergies to lower agricultural diesel prices in France
TotalEnergies has announced it will pass on economic benefits from the release of France’s strategic diesel reserves to consumers, specifically targeting agricultural diesel. Starting in November, the price for agricultural diesel at TotalEnergies stations is expected to be 20 cents per liter lower than international market levels.
This price reduction is intended to last for three months, through January 31, 2027, as France releases its portion of strategic reserves which were stored at lower costs. TotalEnergies currently holds a 35% share of the French diesel market.
French farmers currently receive a state fuel subsidy of 15 cents per liter, which is expected to cost the treasury over 50 million euros monthly. While the new discount may help meet the demands of the FNSEA farmers' union, which is seeking a 30-cent subsidy, the Coordination Rurale (CR) union has called for a price cap of 1 euro per liter. Farmers have recently engaged in protests and blocked storage facilities due to dissatisfaction with existing support measures.
