Max Verstappen and Red Bull dominate Singapore Grand Prix
Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing have demonstrated a significant resurgence in Formula 1, highlighted by a dominant performance at the Singapore Grand Prix. Verstappen secured both pole positions and victories in the sprint and main race, marking his first win at the Marina Bay circuit. This performance follows a recent victory in Malaysia, signaling that Red Bull's technical upgrades have successfully addressed previous weaknesses in car competitiveness.
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff acknowledged Red Bull's rapid development, noting that while Mercedes remains close to championship contention, the competitive landscape is expected to shift significantly by 2027. Verstappen has also surpassed Michael Schumacher for the most wins with a single team, reaching 73 victories with Red Bull, and is now targeting Lewis Hamilton’s record of 84 wins with Mercedes.
In Singapore, George Russell managed a recovery from 19th to 9th place, a result Wolff described as damage limitation due to the aerodynamic challenges of the street circuit. Meanwhile, championship leader Kimi Antonelli showed continued adaptation with a third-place finish. The recent momentum from Red Bull has placed other top teams, including McLaren and Mercedes, on high alert regarding future championship battles.
