Tottenham defender Cristian Romero's future uncertain amid defensive overhaul

Argentina's football federation president Chiqui Tapia rejected claims that Tottenham centre‑back Cristian Romero had undergone an MRI scan, stating, "The information being circulated is false: no MRI was performed." Romero, who aggravated a medial collateral ligament injury in Argentina's World Cup win over Austria, missed the subsequent group match against Jordan but was expected to recover for the round of 32.

Tottenham have reshaped their back line, completing a £52 million signing of Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton and adding free‑transfer Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth. Former club scout Bryan King said the moves suggest Romero is likely to leave the club this summer. Interest has been reported from Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The developments raise questions about Romero's role at Tottenham and his prospects for a new club as the English side pursues a new defensive strategy.
