Tottenham Hotspur bids for Dutch internationals Van Hecke and Gakpo
Tottenham Hotspur has submitted a formal offer for Brighton & Hove Albion defender Jan Paul van Hecke. The club sees the Dutch international, who is under contract until mid‑2027, as a key piece in Roberto De Zerbi’s rebuilding plan and hopes to complete the transfer before the World Cup. Brighton is reportedly willing to negotiate to avoid losing the player on a free transfer.
The London side is also pursuing Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo. Sources say Tottenham has shown “serious interest” and is working to convince the 27‑year‑old to leave a Liverpool team that gave him a difficult season under the new manager Andoni Iraola. Multiple clubs from England, Spain and Germany have been linked to Gakpo, but Tottenham aims to secure him as part of a growing Dutch enclave at the club, which already includes Xavi Simons and Micky van de Ven.
Both moves underline Tottenham’s strategy to strengthen its squad with Dutch talent ahead of the upcoming international tournament.
