Tottenham Hotspur cuts Romero fee and pauses sporting director search

Tottenham Hotspur has lowered its asking price for centre‑back Cristian Romero from about €70 million to roughly €30 million, aiming to facilitate a summer transfer after the Argentine’s injury issues and recent criticism. The club hopes the reduced fee will attract interest, notably from Atletico Madrid, which previously pursued the World Cup winner.

At the same time, the North London club announced that its hunt for a new sporting director is on hold until after the summer transfer window. Chief executive Viní Venkatesham said the club has confidence in its existing team and will consider candidates later. Johan Lange, head coach Roberto De Zerbi and newly appointed director of football operations Rafi Moersen will oversee recruitment during the interim.

Both moves come after a season the club described as “unacceptable,” with Spurs narrowly avoiding relegation and aiming to rebuild for future success.
