Tottenham Hotspur eyes league recovery after a tumultuous 2025‑26 season

Tottenham Hotspur finished 17th in the Premier League for two consecutive campaigns, despite winning the 2025 Europa League, and only avoided relegation on the final day of the 2025‑26 season. The club entered the 2026‑27 campaign aiming to return to the league’s top positions.

After chairman Daniel Levy’s departure, the club appointed Brentford manager Thomas Frank, who was later replaced by interim manager Igor Tudor in February and then by Roberto De Zerbi ahead of the new season. De Zerbi guided the side to safety with a vital win over Everton, but the team will miss European football in 2026‑27, allowing a focus on improving domestic results.

In response to defensive frailties and a lack of form, Tottenham made a series of summer signings, including Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul Van Hecke, Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and goalkeeper Martin Dubravka. Earlier transfers also brought in Xavi Simons, Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel. The overhaul of the squad is intended to bolster the club’s chances of climbing the Premier League table.
