Tottenham Hotspur faces difficult start amid squad rebuild

Tottenham Hotspur is undergoing a significant squad rebuild under manager Roberto De Zerbi following a difficult 2025-26 campaign that included a relegation battle. De Zerbi has utilized a heavy summer recruitment drive to change the club’s playing profile and internal culture, bringing in players such as Sávio, Omar Marmoush, and Sandro Tonali.

Despite the investment, the club has suffered back-to-back Premier League defeats to start the 2026-27 season, losing 3-0 to Brentford and 2-0 to Newcastle United. Following the loss to Newcastle, captain Micky van de Ven urged the squad to focus on positives and resilience rather than dwelling on errors. De Zerbi has expressed trust in the squad's quality, noting that integrating major summer signings and developing tactical chemistry requires time.
