Tottenham Hotspur pursued Marcus Rashford transfer before walking away
Tottenham Hotspur explored a permanent transfer for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford during the summer transfer window but ultimately withdrew from negotiations. The pursuit was part of an effort to bolster the attacking options for head coach Roberto De Zerbi.
Discussions stalled because Manchester United refused to negotiate a lower fee than the player's contractually mandated release clause, valued at approximately €46.6 million (£40 million). While the clause was available to most Premier League suitors, it specifically excluded Manchester United's rivals, Manchester City and Liverpool. Tottenham officials reportedly deemed the required buyout fee too high for their summer budget and declined to proceed with the deal.
