Tottori City unveils redevelopment plan for JR Tottori Station area
Tottori City has released a draft for the ‘Tottori Station Area Regeneration Development Plan’ to revitalize the area surrounding JR Tottori Station. The project aims to strengthen the connection between the station and the city center, creating spaces for citizens to gather and improving transportation connectivity amidst a declining population.
The plan includes relocating the bus terminal, developing new plazas, and constructing a multi-functional complex that will provide childcare support, youth activities, incubation services, and citizen activity support. The estimated cost for public works is approximately 12 billion yen. The city intends to utilize private sector involvement for the complex, with completion expected in 8 to 12 years.
To facilitate public engagement, an ‘open house’ style briefing center has been established at Tottori City Hall. This venue allows citizens to view 3D visualizations of the future cityscape and speak directly with city officials. The city will also hold briefing sessions at 14 locations across the city through early October.
