Senegal legal developments involve TikTokers and Ousmane Sonko
Senegal is seeing multiple high-profile legal developments involving social media influencers and political figures.
TikToker Rokhaya Fall, known as Rox, faces several legal challenges. Following her extraction from prison, she has been placed in custody by the Special Cybersecurity Division. She is accused of disseminating personal data and violating privacy, following complaints from individuals including Rama D. and Ramz Yago. Due to these ongoing investigations, her trial involving other influencers has been postponed to September 14, 2026.
In a separate matter, TikToker Leukh Leukh was released from custody after questioning regarding controversial remarks about the city of Touba, though he remains under judicial supervision. Other influencers, Oumar Wass and Khelcom, remain in custody.
Politically, an investigation has been opened into remarks made by Ousmane Sonko regarding the city of Touba. Descendants of the city's founder filed a complaint alleging his comments about illicit money entering the holy city were defamatory. Sonko may invoke parliamentary immunity to avoid questioning. Additionally, political tensions have risen as Aldiouma Sow has publicly accused Sonko and his associates of involvement in financial scandals.
