Touba: Sokhna Aïda Diallo visit sparks legal action and religious tension

The recent visit of Sokhna Aïda Diallo to Touba has triggered significant religious and legal controversy within the Mouride community. Following her reception by Serigne Sidy Abdoul Ahad Mbacké on August 29, several members of the family of the late Serigne Abdou Lahad Mbacké filed legal complaints regarding social media content deemed offensive to the family's honor.

As a result of these complaints, authorities in Touba have detained several TikTok creators, including Oumar Wass (Oumar Café Diagne) and Khelcom (Serigne Saliou Mbaye). Investigators are also searching for a third creator known as ‘Leukh Leukh’. The legal proceedings aim to determine the nature of the remarks made online and the circumstances of their dissemination.

The visit has reignited tensions dating back to a 2019 controversy involving Diallo. While Serigne Sidy Abdoul Ahad Mbacké stated that the meeting was a personal matter and welcomed her as a Mouride disciple, the event has faced criticism from within his own family circles and has led to accusations of ‘offense to Serigne Touba’.
