Toulouse FC fans celebrate 40 years since defeating Maradona’s Napoli

Toulouse FC supporters staged a massive choreographed tribute at the Stadium of Toulouse to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the club’s historic victory over Napoli in the 1986-87 UEFA Cup.

The Ultras group, known as the Indians Toulouse, displayed a large banner reading “Mamma, ho battuto Maradona” (Mom, I beat Maradona). The message serves as an ironic nod to the famous Neapolitan anthem regarding the player. The choreography also featured imagery of Diego Maradona alongside Toulouse’s Argentine players Alberto Tarantini and Beto Márcico.

The historic event occurred during the first round of the tournament. After losing the first leg 1-0 at the San Paolo, Toulouse leveled the score in the return leg. The match proceeded to a penalty shootout, which Toulouse won after Maradona missed his attempt, hitting the post.
