Toulouse hospital morgue investigation after remains found in medical waste
The bodies of one newborn and four fetuses were discovered in a medical waste container at the morgue of the Rangueil hospital, part of the Toulouse University Hospital (CHU de Toulouse).
Hospital administration stated that preliminary findings suggest the incident was an “isolated act by a professional.” In response, the suspected staff member has been suspended, and an internal administrative investigation has been launched.
The CHU de Toulouse reported that the police, the Regional Health Agency, and the public prosecutor have been notified. The prosecutor has ordered an immediate inspection mission. The hospital emphasized that the presence of these remains in a waste container is “deeply contrary to all existing and applicable procedures regarding the management of bodies awaiting burial or cremation and to ethical principles.”
