French municipalities implement school infrastructure and safety plans
Municipalities across France are implementing various initiatives for the 2026/2027 school year, focusing on infrastructure, security, and climate adaptation.
In Clermont, Mayor Julien Bony announced an ‘emergency plan’ including an experiment to provide one ATSEM per class in three test schools. In Toulouse, significant investments have been made, including the full opening of the Marie de Gournay school and renovations in the Jolimont district. The city also successfully negotiated eight additional class openings.
Other regional updates include: • Coulogne: The Roger Macke school will retain four classes following an increase in enrollments. • Lannemezan: A plan to merge four schools into two hubs by 2028 is underway to address demographic shifts. • Arles: Approximately 1.47 million euros were invested in school renovations and security. • Cavaillon: Over 300,000 euros were allocated for maintenance, window replacements, and thermal comfort measures. • La Flèche and Grand Reims: Focus remains on adapting buildings to extreme heat through ventilation, shading, and thermal insulation.
Security measures, such as the installation of PPMS alarm systems in Taradeau and Arles, are also being prioritized to ensure student safety.
