Toulouse police officers stabbed in knife attack
Two municipal police officers were injured in a knife attack in the center of Toulouse, France, on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred near the Wilson district while the officers were on patrol.
According to city officials, including Deputy Mayor for Security Emilion Esnault, the suspect approached the officers' vehicle and attacked them with a blade. The suspect was found to be in possession of three knives. During the confrontation, one officer sustained injuries to the arm and neck, while a female officer's protective vest was deeply slashed. Both officers were treated at the CHU de Rangueil hospital; neither is reported to be in life-threatening condition.
Toulouse Mayor Jean-Luc Moudenc stated that the suspect reportedly shouted 'Allah Akbar' during the assault, leading to reports of statements with terrorist connotations. While the Toulouse prosecutor has opened an investigation into attempted homicide against public officials, authorities noted that the specific nature of the attack—whether classified as terrorism—will be determined following a full investigation into the suspect's background and motives.
