Tour de France prepares for extreme heat with safety measures

Tour de France director Christian Prudhomme said the race will adapt to potentially tropical temperatures expected on the opening stages in Barcelona. The organizers will follow the UCI extreme‑heat protocol, adding extra refreshment zones, adjusting time limits and seeking routes with more shade. They plan to distribute 2.5 million caps, 550 000 cans of drink and 400 000 L of bottled water, urging spectators to stay hydrated and protect themselves, especially children and the elderly.

The 2025 edition will feature shorter stages, with the longest at 205 km, and a focus on rider safety. Czech cyclists Pavel Bittner, Mathias Vacek and Jakub Otruba will make their Tour debut, joining the start‑list announced by their teams. The race begins with a team‑time trial in Barcelona before moving across France.
