Tour de l’Avenir 2026 to feature development teams and Alpine stages

The 62nd edition of the Tour de l’Avenir, a premier stage race for under-23 cyclists, is scheduled to take place from August 20 to August 26, 2026. This edition introduces a significant change to the competition format, as it will no longer be exclusive to national teams; professional development teams are also permitted to participate, with ten already confirmed.

The race will begin in Normandy, France, at Ouistreham Riva-Bella, and will cover over 900 kilometers across seven stages. The route travels through regions including the Loire Valley and Burgundy before moving into the Alps for a challenging final trilogy. Key highlights include a mountain time trial between Les Carroz and Flaine, a queen stage finishing at the Col de l’Iseran, and a final stage concluding in Ceresole Reale, Italy, near Lago di Serrù.

While the event will not have traditional television coverage, it will be available via live stream on Discovery Plus and HBO Max, with text updates provided by OA Sport. The competition remains a vital platform for emerging cycling talent, carrying prestige comparable to the Tour de France for the under-23 category.
