Tourism and travel arrivals rise in Tonga and Solomon Islands

Recent data indicates an upward trend in international travel for both Tonga and the Solomon Islands.

In Tonga, September 2026 saw 12,099 international arrivals, an 8.9% increase compared to September 2025. Air travel accounted for 7,495 visitors, with holiday and vacation travel making up 72.4% of that group. New Zealand was the primary source of visitors, followed by Australia and the United States. Additionally, yacht arrivals increased to 475, partly attributed to the Vava’u Sailing Festival.

The Solomon Islands reported 15,358 international arrivals in the second quarter of 2026, representing a 27.7% increase from the first quarter of 2026 and a 9.7% increase from the same period in 2025. Visitors from Australia constituted the largest visitor group at 27%, followed by China at 15%.
