Tourism development and traditional fair trends in Brazil and Portugal

Gisele Abrahão, CEO of Global Vision Access and founder of the Impactos Positivos Platform, advocates for a tourism model that integrates local assets—such as traditional knowledge, gastronomy, and regional crafts—into a business network. She argues that by treating cultural and natural identity as economic assets, tourism can generate income that remains within local communities rather than requiring the alteration of their unique characteristics.

In Coimbra, Portugal, the 39th edition of the Feira das Cebolas (Onion Fair) is facing a significant decline in participants. While the event continues at Praça do Comércio until August 22, the number of onion sellers has dropped from 35 in previous years to just three. Longtime vendor Ramiro Barradas noted that despite the scarcity of sellers and reduced production due to early-year rains, consumer demand remains high, as onions continue to sell quickly from the remaining stalls.
