Tourism growth accelerates in Morocco's Agadir and across Algeria
The Moroccan city of Agadir has continued its upward tourism trend, recording 607,894 visitors through the end of May 2026 – up from 570,260 in the same period of 2025 and 520,070 in 2024. The increase is reflected not only in arrivals but also in longer stays, higher hotel occupancy rates and new hotel openings ahead of the summer season.
In Algeria, the tourism sector is experiencing a comparable surge. The government has earmarked more than 11 billion Algerian dinars for beach and coastal development, leading to the opening of 470 beaches across 14 wilayas, nine of which are new. Private concessions now operate on a limited portion of beach areas, offering services such as kayaks, paddle‑boards, yachts and even amphibious‑car excursions. Prices range from 1,500 to 30,000 dinars depending on activity and group size, and many operators report bookings filled through September, indicating strong demand.
Both countries are seeing diversified tourist offerings, higher standards of service and increased revenue potential for the hospitality and recreation industries.
