Tourism infrastructure expansion planned in Nordhorn and Horn

Regional tourism development initiatives are underway in Nordhorn and the Horn area near Vestrahorn. In Nordhorn, discussions focus on leveraging the city's water locations and cycling networks to boost nature-oriented tourism. Key proposals include better integration of cycling and waterway tourism, targeting day tourists from the Netherlands, and establishing new camping sites and motorhome parking areas. To manage growth, there are calls for a digital parking guidance system and better separation of through-traffic from inner-city streets.

In the Horn area, a new development plan has been introduced to regulate and expand existing tourism infrastructure. The plan covers approximately 53 hectares and aims to harmonize new construction with the natural landscape. It provides a framework for existing facilities, such as the Viking village and local gastronomy, while designating new plots for additional buildings and accommodations. The expansion is designed to support up to 120 guests and includes specific provisions for expanding existing hospitality and residential structures.
