Tourism stakeholders propose new experiences near Cradle of Humankind

Tourism stakeholders in the region west of Johannesburg, including parts of the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, are proposing new visitor experiences to expand tourism beyond established attractions. These initiatives were discussed during the Morame Regional Tourism Conference 2026, held under the theme ‘From Extraction to Experience’.

Proposed developments include astro-tourism, a dedicated coffee route to support local farmers, and new heritage attractions. There are also plans to strengthen the Cradle of Humankind tourism route and explore military heritage through projects like a proposed Magaliesburg War-Heritage Lodge.

To improve connectivity and sustainability, committees have suggested implementing roadworthy tourism transport, electric bicycles, and integrating local producers into the tourism value chain through sustainable food production.
