Tourism trends show growth in Austrian Alps and Krkonoše mountains

The Austrian Alps are entering the winter season with a focus on diverse recreational offerings. Beyond traditional skiing, regions like the Gastein Valley and Achensee are emphasizing thermal baths, cross-country skiing, and winter markets to attract visitors.

Czech tourists remain a vital market for Austria, accounting for approximately four million overnight stays annually. This represents Austria’s third strongest foreign market, with 80 percent of Czech visitors returning to the region and 47 percent traveling with families.

In the Czech Republic, the Krkonoše mountains experienced their third strongest summer tourist season since systematic measurements began in 2012. Between July and September, monitored profiles recorded approximately 518,000 passages, marking a 6 percent increase from the previous year and a 19 percent increase compared to 2024.

Data indicates a trend of extending the tourist season into May and September. While August remains a peak month, September accounted for nearly 26 percent of summer passages this year. Officials from the Krkonoše National Park (KRNAP) noted that while high attendance is positive, it necessitates increased responsibility regarding nature conservation.
