Tourism trends show shifts in German and Bosnian travel patterns

Tourism trends in 2025 and 2026 show shifting patterns for both German and Bosnian travelers. According to the German National Tourist Board (GNTB), Germany remains a top destination for travelers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, ranking third behind Montenegro and Croatia. For Bosnian citizens, 55% of trips are for leisure, while 31% are for visiting friends and family.

In Germany, statistical data from 2025 indicates a shift toward domestic tourism. While total multi-day trips decreased by 1.1% compared to 2024, domestic travel within Germany rose by 3.9% to a record 169 million trips. This growth was largely driven by a 10.5% increase in business travel. Conversely, international travel by German citizens saw an 8.3% decline, though it remains 5.4% higher than pre-pandemic levels. Additionally, there has been a notable decrease in air travel, with four million fewer trips taken by plane compared to the previous year.
