Tourist complaints highlight border fines and rising costs in Croatia

A woman traveling with her family to Croatia was detained for more than two hours and fined after border officials found a kilogram of tomatoes in her luggage. She said the officers handled the situation harshly, despite her claim that the tomatoes were for personal consumption.

A tourist from Bosnia and Herzegovina reported that a meal of a jumbo pizza and two coffees cost 103 convertible marks (about €53) and that accommodation, food, fuel and other expenses have risen by roughly 30% in the Dubrovnik area. She warned that such price increases make short coastal vacations increasingly unaffordable for families with modest incomes.
