A 62-year-old tourist from Padova died on Marettimo, the most remote island in the Egadi archipelago, after suffering a sudden medical emergency while swimming.
Witnesses immediately brought the man to shore, where medical personnel on the beach began resuscitation efforts that lasted for over an hour. The rescue operation involved the island's health center, the Coast Guard, and 118 emergency services. A Coast Guard patrol boat, CP 330, departed from Trapani with medical staff on board to assist. Despite the rapid response from emergency services, the man could not be revived, and his death was confirmed on site. The public prosecutor has been notified, and the body was transferred to Trapani via the Coast Guard vessel.
