Tourist dies in Sicily while swimming near Cattolica Eraclea

A 43-year-old tourist from Venice died in the sea between Cattolica Eraclea and Ribera in Sicily. The incident occurred near the mouth of the Platani River and the Capobianco cliff while the man was swimming.

Emergency services, including 118 medical personnel, arrived quickly and performed resuscitation efforts, but were unable to save him. An air ambulance was requested, but departed without the patient after doctors confirmed his death.

Authorities are investigating whether the cause was drowning or a sudden medical emergency. The Carabinieri of the Ribera station have conducted surveys and investigations to reconstruct the events, and a forensic doctor has performed an initial inspection of the body.
