Tourist missing after falling into gorge on Gangotri-Gaumukh trek

A 65-year-old tourist from Maharashtra, identified as Ram Kumar Hanuman Gupta, is missing after falling into a 130-meter deep gorge on the Gangotri-Gaumukh trekking route in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand.

The incident occurred on September 25 around 2:30 PM near Kachidang when Gupta reportedly slipped while trekking with a group of four other individuals. An 18-member search and rescue team, including personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the forest department, police, and local porters, has been conducting operations in the area.

Heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions have hindered search efforts at sites including Chirbasa and Devgarh Khale. Due to a red alert issued by the weather department, district authorities have temporarily suspended pilgrimages to Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham at the Hina and Dobata holding points as a precaution.
