Tourist narrowly avoids bear attack on Romania's Transfăgărășan road

A tourist traveling on the Transfăgărășan mountain road in Romania was almost attacked by a brown bear after becoming distracted by his mobile phone. Video footage captured the bear creeping up to within a few centimetres behind the man, who only became aware of the animal when it appeared directly in front of him and then ran to his vehicle.

The clip spread rapidly on social media, prompting Romanian environmental authorities, including Minister Diana Buzoianu, to issue reminders that visitors should stay alert and follow safety recommendations when moving through areas frequented by wildlife.
