Tourist rescued after injury in Sicily's Cavagrande canyon

A 61-year-old Scandinavian tourist was rescued after being injured and trapped in the Cavagrande del Cassibile nature reserve in Syracuse, Sicily. The woman suffered a leg injury following a fall on the steep Scala Cruci path, which led to the canyon's lakes, making it impossible for her to climb out alone.

Emergency services, including the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps (CNSAS), the Guardia di Finanza Alpine Rescue, and the Fire Brigade, conducted a difficult extraction. Rescuers used a specialized stretcher to carry the woman by hand up the steep terrain to the Belvedere area, where an ambulance was waiting to transport her to the hospital.
