Tours police investigation launched after youth injured by possible LBD

The Inspection Générale de la Police Nationale (IGPN) has opened an investigation following an incident in Tours where a young man sustained facial and head injuries. The injury occurred on Wednesday, September 30, near Lycée Balzac during a student blockade of the establishment.

Prosecutor Catherine Sorita-Minard stated that medical examinations indicate the lesions are ‘compatible with the impact of an LBD-type defense ball’ used by law enforcement. The incident took place as police and firefighters were intervening to address fires and were reportedly facing projectiles from protesters.

The investigation will rely on police statements, body camera footage, and eyewitness testimonies to ensure transparency regarding the circumstances of the injury. The Mayor of Tours, Emmanuel Denis, has called for calm and for the full facts to be revealed.
