Toy Story 5 launches in Japan with new formats, merch and special theater events
Disney & Pixar’s fifth installment of the Toy Story franchise will open in Japan on 3 July 2026. The film will be shown in eleven different viewing formats, including IMAX, Dolby Cinema, 4DX, SCREEN X and Ultra 4DX, with special “Toy Story Theater” experiences at eight TOHO cinemas featuring themed décor and promotional clear‑sheet collectibles.
Ahead of the release, a range of exclusive products has been announced. A set of limited‑edition K18 gold mini‑statues of Woody, Buzz, Alien and Hamm will be available for reservation from 26 June to 24 July. Ginza Cozy Corner will sell Toy Story‑themed sweets, including a nine‑piece cake collection featuring the new character Lily Pad. A “Ichiban Kuji” lottery, starting 10 July, will offer assorted posters, figures, and a final‑draw special figurine.
The promotional campaign highlights the new character Lily Pad, a high‑tech tablet that drives the plot’s conflict about children’s screen time, and underscores the series’ focus on the bond between toys and their owners.
