Toy Story 5 dominates global box office and sparks related consumer trends
Pixar’s fifth installment of the franchise continued its strong performance in its second weekend, pulling in $70 million domestically and raising its U.S. total to just under $300 million. Worldwide the film’s gross reached approximately $585 million, putting it on track to surpass $600 million and ranking it among Pixar’s most profitable releases.
The box‑office success has spilled over into the consumer market. A Gumtree survey in the UK found that pre‑owned Toy Story memorabilia can be purchased for up to 74 % less than new items, with figures such as a Buzz Lightyear figure selling for £13 versus £50 new.
In the Netherlands, the summer exhibition at the Rijksmuseum (4 July–16 August) turned the museum into a Toy Story experience, offering free workshops, a 17th‑century game and a paid family tour (€7.50) featuring sketches of the film’s characters and interactive activities for children.
