Toy Story franchise generates $50 billion in global economic impact
The Toy Story franchise has generated an estimated $50 billion in economic impact over its 30-year history, according to a report by Steward Redqueen released by The Walt Disney Company. This economic footprint includes $25 billion in the United States, $12 billion across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, $8 billion in Asia-Pacific, and $6 billion in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Beyond direct film revenue, the franchise has significantly influenced the broader economy through retail, tourism, transportation, and manufacturing. Within Disney's ecosystem, the series has inspired four immersive lands, 23 attractions, and two hotels. The first four films also drove over 60 million viewing hours on Disney+ prior to the release of the fifth installment.
Toy Story 5, directed by Andrew Stanton, explores themes of technology and traditional play as characters navigate a world where digital screens compete for attention. Following a box office run exceeding $1 billion, the film is now expanding its reach via the Disney+ streaming platform.
