Toyama and Hida Takayama explored on Japanese variety show
In the upcoming broadcast of the Japanese variety show ‘Tuesday no Yoshizumi Kotaro’, hosts Ishihara Yoshizumi and Koizumi Kotaro explore the historical and cultural connections between Toyama Prefecture and Hida Takayama in Gifu Prefecture.
The journey begins at the recently renamed Toyama Takayama Sushi Airport, notable for its unique runway located on a riverbed. The hosts trace the ‘Buri Kaido’ (Yellowtail Road), a historical trade route used by porters to transport salted yellowtail and other seafood from Toyama Bay to the landlocked Takayama region.
Highlights of the episode include experiencing a VR simulation of the ‘kago no watashi’ (basket crossing) at the Inotani Sekisho Museum, cycling along the abandoned Kamioka Railway tracks, and exploring the historic Takayama Jinya. The hosts also sample local delicacies such as Hida beef sushi, gohei mochi, and traditional grilled salted yellowtail, highlighting the enduring culinary bond between the two regions.
