Toyama Chihou Railway to acquire 213 series trains from JR Central

Toyama Chihou Railway has announced the acquisition of 213 series 5000 series rolling stock from JR Central to address aging fleet issues and promote barrier-free accessibility. The purchase includes eight cars in total, organized into four 2-car sets.

The stainless-steel vehicles, which previously operated on the Iida and Kansai lines, are scheduled to be transported to Toyama in October. They will undergo modifications at the Inarimachi vehicle factory to ensure compatibility with Toyama Chihou Railway's lines.

The company plans to begin operations with the first set within the current fiscal year, with the remaining sets scheduled to enter service sequentially from the following fiscal year onward.
